Nikki Levine Photography ::: About
BIO
Nikki Levine first became interested in photography when she used a 35mm camera on a trip to Europe with her father when she was 15. Nikki became enchanted with the idea that you could capture and keep an image inside a box seemingly forever. She loved spying on people with her zoom lens atop the Eiffel tower. Nikki felt she could see things that no one else could see and, for just a moment, time slowed down. This experience left an indelible mark that eventually led her to pursue photography professionally.
Nikki studied photography and painting in college, earning a B.F.A. in Film and Visual Art at The Evergreen State College in Washington state. In 2004 she spearheaded the photography department at the Jewish Community High School in San Francisco. Teaching students how to use 35mm manual cameras and print in a darkroom was quite apropos considering her beginnings.
Teaching enabled Nikki to renew her love for the medium and, after five years, it suddenly became evident to her that she needed to pursue photography full time. She is both humbled and excited about the limitless possibilities for the future.
Nikki lives in Berkeley, California with her husband, Joshua, son, Lukas and twin girls, Mia and Sadie.
